FORMER TRIPURA Chief Minister and sitting Congress MLA Sudhir Ranjan Majumder passed away today following a massive cardiac arrest.
Majumder, 75, breathed his last in the wee hours today after he was shifted to hospital late last night following a heart attack.
He is survived by his wife.
Elected as an MLA from Bardwali constituency during last year&aposs assembly elections, Majumder was the chief minister of the state when the Congress- Tripura Upajati Juba Samity coalition was in power during 1988 and 1992.
He was first elected to the assembly in 1983 from Khayerpur constituency.
From 1986 to 1988, he held the position of opposition leader in the assembly and became the TPCC President in 1988.He was also the Rajya Sabha MP from 1992 to 1998.An acute diabetic, Majumder suffered a heart attack last midnight after meeting people and party workers as usual throughout the day.
Majumder started his career as a school teacher before joining politics.
An amiable gentleman, he was always accessible to the common man even during his stint as the chief minister.
It was during his tenure as Chief Minister that government employees got maximum financial benefit.
Former chief minister Samir Ranjan Burman, former minister Mati Lal Saha were among others to pay floral tributes to him.
