Imphal, January 04 2008:
MAIREMBAM PRITHVIRAJ who won the by-election in the recently concluded Moirang Assembly Constituency will be sworn in as Member of the Legislative Assembly tomorrow at the Manipur Legislative Assembly, at 10 am.
The Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly will administer the oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected Congress candidate, according to an official source.
Chief Minister, O Ibobi, his cabinet colleagues and other MLAs will attend the swearing in ceremony.
Mention may be made that in the result of the by-poll declared on December 30, Prithviraj won the seat which his late father held till his dead in October by a margin of 4,887 votes from his nearest and only rival MPP candidate H Bira.
Prithiviraj secured a total of 16,225 votes out of 27,563 valid votes while Bira got 11,338 votes.
The constituency has 32,339 electors.
By-election to the seat was held on December 27, two months after the death of Congress MLA M.Manindra who was the father of Prithiviraj in October, 2008 .
With the retention of the seat, Congress can maintain its 31 seats to lead the Secular Progressive Front (SPF) ministry having 35 seats strength with four MLAs from the CPI in the 60-member Manipur Legislative Assembly.
RJD with three members is also extending support to the SPF government from outside.
Of the rest 22 seats, the opposition Manipur People's Party (MPP) has 5, National People's Party 3, Nationalist Congress Party 4 and independents 10 .
