Imphal, January 04 2008:
Beginning from mid February, CISF's commando unit Special Security Group (SSG) will be in charge of Chief Minister's security.
The new arrangement has been made considering the reported threats to the Chief Minister from UG groups and attacks at the Chief Minister's complex.
A reliable source informed The Sangai Express that SSG would be replacing MR and CRPF as escorts and quarter guards of the Chief Minister and his official complex from next month.
Accepting the State Government's proposal to provide SSG commandos as security guards to the Chief Minister, one CISF Inspector had visited Imphal and worked out the necessary arrangement.
The State Government has also proposed to the Centre to provide SSG for the Governor's security.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the DIPR office located just South to the Chief Minister's complex would be shifting to MSRTC complex from tomorrow.
The area now occupied by the DIPR office would be converted into a parking lot, informed the source.
Further, the western gate of the Chief Minister's residence would be shifted to the direction where the DIPR stands currently for security reasons.
In stepped-up security arrangement following the grenade attack by KCP (MC) at Raj Bhavan, the State Central Library, office of the State Social Welfare Advisory Board and the Treasury office located in the surrounding area of the Raj Bhavan will also be shifted, conveyed the source.
Moreover, the State Government constituted committee headed by DGP A Romenkumar has recommended that the vacant area in front of the Raj Bhavan, beside the main road, should be dug up to make way for a water body, probably a pond.
However, the Government has an earlier plan to develop the vacant area as a garden, disclosed the source further.
