Imphal, January 04 2008:
With the newspaper distributors (hawkers) staying away from distributing daily newspapers following an impasse with publishers on their commission, AMADA volunteers distributed newspapers at ten different places today.
Since 4.30 am today, AMADA volunteers distributed newspapers at RIMS, Shija Hospital, Imphal Hospital, Langol View Clinic, Sagolband Tera, Konung Mamang, Khurai, Thangmeiband, Kongpal, Uripok and Nambol.
AMADA drive committee secretary Meghachandra noted that commission of one rupee on a newspaper copy costing Rs 3 is most reasonable.
He also appealed to both the distributors and publishers to come to an agreement so that newspapers are delivered to the public.
In case the two sides fail to arrive at an understanding soon, volunteers of AMADA district councils and local councils would take up the task of distributing newspapers, he added.
