Imphal, January 04 2008:
A minor boy of 3 years sustained minor injuries when explosive experts of Manipur Police set off a hand grenade.
The grenade was lobbed at the residence of the Commander of 2nd Bn Home Guard by unidentified persons at Ghari Maning Leikai.
Family members of Home Guard Commander Sorokhaibam Tomba (55) found the .36 high explosive grenade at the courtyard this morning.
Lamphel police personnel and explosive experts came and retrieved the hand grenade.
To set off the bomb, explosive experts took it to the paddy field located behind the house of Tomba.
Then police cordoned off an area of radius 100 metre.
Then they set off the grenade at about 8 pm.
But a minor boy who was playing in the courtyard of a nearby house was hurt in the forehead by a shrapnel or some object thrown up by the force of the explosion.
Although the injury was not a serious one, the boy was rushed to RIMS.
He was a son of one Meinam Brojen (30) of the same locality.
However, police maintained that the boy might have sustained the injury on stumbling.
They also refused to divulge the name of the boy.
On the other hand, denouncing the act of lobbing bomb at civilian populated area, local Meira Paibis staged a protest sitting at Ghari today.
The Meira Paibis appealed to all concerned to clarify the reason and own the act in public.
