World Mental Health Day

Indian Psychiatric Society, Manipur State branch and Centre for Development Activities (CDAC), Wangjing, jointly observed World Mental Health Day' 16 at Thoubal Athokpam Arong auditorium today on the theme "Psychological and mental first aid for all", our correspondent reports.
Khangabok AC MLA O Landhoni Devi; Deputy Commissioner, Thoubal, M Joy; CMO Thoubal DR Jayentakumar and District Hospital, Thoubal, Medical Superintendent Dr H Angomcha graced the observance as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the observance, District Mental Health Programme, Thoubal, Nodal Officer Dr Athokpam Ranita said having a psychiatric problem does not always mean that a person is mentally unstable.
Hiding a medical problem will only aggravate it and make it difficult to treat.
She further urged all the persons with psychological and mental issues to approach a specialist doctor and get early treatment for their problems.
Given the present scenario of Manipur, it won't be an wrong to assume that at least one person of each family in the State suffers from mental illness, MLA O Landhoni said.
The rise in suicides cases among youths is one example, she stated.
Dr Kh Robindro, Psychiatrist, District Hospital, Thoubal, spoke in length about the common psychiatric disorders during the observance.
NGOs volunteers, ASHA members and students took part in the World Mental Health Day observance.
