Imphal, October 08 2016:
Coming out strongly against the decision of the Academic Council of Manipur University to follow reservation norms which existed before the Central Education Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act 2012, DESAM today asserted that this decision is legally wrong and is against natural justice.
The earlier reservation norms before the Amendment Act of 2012, was 7.5 pc for ST, 15 pc for SC and 27 pc for OBC.
This was over ruled by the Central Education Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act, 2012 which laid down that the reservation norms should stand as 31 pc for ST, 2 pc for SC and 17 pc for OBC, said DESAM.
The High Court of Manipur had also passed a verdict on September 1 last year that admission to MU should be under the 2012 Amendment Act.
The same judgement was reiterated on October 3, 2016 , added DESAM.
This shows that the decision of the Academic Council of MU is against the ruling of the High Court.
As such the decision of the Academic Council is against the law,
added the student body.
