Imphal, October 08 2016:
Nurses (ANM) appointed on contract basis under the State Health Mission have threatened to launch intense modes of agitation if the authority proceeds with the ongoing process for recruiting nurses anew without regularising their service.
The State Health Mission ANM Employees Association secretary said that the State Government has been undertaking fresh processes for recruitment of nurses on regular basis without regularising the nurses appointed on contract basis under the State Health Mission (SHM).
There are more than 450 nurses appointed on contract basis under SHM, and they have been working the same hours and days like regular nurses.
There is no harm in recruiting nurses, doctors and para-medical staff under SHM from time to time.
The association has been only asking the Government to regularise the service of contract nurses who have been working for prolonged years, said the secretary.
Some other States formulated separate policies for regularisation of doctors, nurses and para-medical staff appointed on contract basis under SHM.
But no such policy has been formulated in Manipur .
At a function held in front of Congress Bhavan on May 5, 2011, Chief Minister O Ibobi reportedly announced that the Government had initiated due process to regularise doctors and para-medical staff appointed on contract basis under SHM.
Despite the Chief Minister’s announcement, nothing has been done so far, said the secretary.
She then appealed to the authority concerned to go for fresh recruitment only after regularisation of the nurses appointed on contract basis under SHM.
