State level swimming competition begins

The first State level sub-junior swimming competition 2016, organised by Modem College Swimming Development Committee under the aegis of Manipur Swimming Association was inaugurated today at Modem College Swimming Pool, Porompat, Imphal East.
The inauguration of the competition was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam as chief guest; Mayor, Imphal Municipal Corporation Soram Sunil Singh; Commissioner (Revenue, Works, Information & Public Relation), Government of Manipur K Radhakumar Singh, IAS; Director, JNIMS Dr Laishram Deben as guests of honour and Principal, Modem College and also
Chairman Modem College Development Committee Dr K Biren Singh as president.
Speaking at the occasion Gaikhangam said that swimming is not only a game but it is also a health education.
Swimming is one of the best therapy for back pain and also good for respiratory related diseases.
It has no side effect, he said.
Appreciating the objective of the organising committee especially the idea to produce more swimmers from the State, he wished the organising committee� to continue their good work in future too.
Around 150 boys and girls, representing different schools, unions and individuals from across the state, competing in different categories.
The competition will end on October 9 .
