ASIMANICON conference kicks off

Chief Minister O Ibobi has assured that the State Government would continue to pay special attention towards further improvement of health care sector in the State.
The 21st annual conference of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI), Manipur State Chapter, ASIMANICON-2016 was opened today at JNIMS auditorium, Porompat by the Chief Minister.
Speaking at the inaugural session as the chief guest, Ibobi appealed to all the people working in the health care sector to take care of the patients with love and sympathy.
He said that a warm touch and kind words of a doctor or nurse is very much needed while treating patients.
Health and Family Welfare Minister D Korungthang, Manipur Pollution Control Board Chairman Dr Ng Bijoy, Commissioner Health PK Singh, Association of Surgeons of India president Dr Vashistha, JNIMS Director Prof L Deben, president ASI Manipur Prof S Rajendra, organising president Prof N Jitendra and organising Secretary Dr Y Sanatomba were also present at the inaugural function.
Taking due note of the crucial importance of human resources for overall welfare of a society, the State Government set up JNIMS under many challenging circumstances, Ibobi stated.
He then expressed keen desire for doctors, nurses and staff of JNIMS to work with dedication and commitment so as to make Manipur a frontrunner in the field of health care services. If one is determined, certainly one will be successful to a considerable extent, if not by 100 per cent.
The State Government is also keen to ensure accessibility to modern health care services to all the people uniformly including people living in remote and far off corners of the State.
Recently, the Medical Council of India agreed to permanently register JNIMS under the North Eastern Regional Institute of Management (NERIM), he conveyed.
He asserted that the State Government would strive relentlessly to make JNIMS one of the best health care centres in the entire North East region.
Health Minister D Korungthang while hailing doctors as saviours for sick people, stated that doctors should do nothing which may erode people’s faith.
Association of Surgeons of India president Dr Vashistha stated that a single mistake can land doctors in trouble or disgrace even if they have been working with full commitment.
He also highlighted the need to reduce whatever trust deficit that exists between doctors and patients.
There have been many instances where doctors cured patients without charging any money but not many people are aware of the selfless works done by doctors.
The Chief Minister also released a souvenir on the occasion.
The theme of the two-day conference is “Evidence Based Practice' .
