Foundation Day celebrated

The Sunday Market Street Vendors Welfare Association celebrated its 4th Foundation Day at Manipur Press Club today.
Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai, Imphal Municipal Corporation Vice-President Thambaljao Phaomei and IMC Bazar Committee Chairperson Salam Tiken graced the occasion as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, AK Mirabai mentioned the need for adopting work culture in order to make Manipur a self-reliant State.
Saying that Government is elected to power by people, the Minister said that Government ought to respect the voice of the people.
She opined that it would be encouraging if separate space for Sunday market vendors is given at suitable places in the markets of all the nine districts.
In his speech, Salam Tiken said that similar vendors can be opened in other weekdays as well.
In his keynote address, Sunday Market Street Vendor Welfare Association general secretary Maibam Shitaljit said that the association was established on September 27, 2012 .
Although, Imphal Municipal Corporation issued vendor license to 129 vendors and gave vendor space at Rupmahal Tank, Sunday market vendors have been facing lots of inconvenience during rainy season.
As such, he requested IMC to reduce tax for the vendors, who are not convenient to sell their items during rainy season.
