Imphal, September 27 2014 :
A strong doubt has been raised on whether construction work of Sanjenthong (bridge) can be completed ahead of the Manipur Sangai Festival 2014 which is scheduled to kick off from November 21 .
Earlier, it was planned to take Indian officials as well as foreign delegates who would attend the festival over the new Sanjenthong on their way to the venue of the festival.
In view of the Manipur Sangai Festival, some repairing works are required on certain roads of Imphal, said a source in PWD.
Even as the department has been working hard to complete the bridge ahead of Sangai festival, no one is sure whether the construction work can meet its deadline or not because all the major components would be built outside the State.

Construction of platforms on which the bridge would be installed have been already completed.
Whatever may be the case, there is no compulsion that participants and visitors of the Sangai festival should cross Sanjenthong.
Most of the bridges of Imphal city are separated by just 500 metres.
There is no harm in using these alternative bridges, said the source.
Yet, no concrete decision has been adopted on Sanjenthong and the likely delay, informed the source.
In connection with the Manipur Sangai Festival 2014, Chief Minister O Ibobi would preside an inter-departmental meeting on September 29 .
The meeting would discuss about division of works, responsibilities and assignments with regard to the Sangai Festival.
Three similar meetings have been held earlier.
As such, the assignments and responsibilities of PWD are likely to be discussed at the meeting, added the source.
