Imphal, September 27 2014 :
Maoist Communist Party (MCP), Manipur has expressed serious concern over the prevailing socio-political condition of women in the State.
According to a statement of MCP Manipur issued by its Secretary Publicity & Propaganda Nonglen Meitei, women are often suppressed and tortured by their male counterparts in the present society.
The patriarchal social setup has also not given much liberty to women.
The socio-political condition of women in Manipur is not good.
Many women have been raped, murdered or assaulted in the State.
The people of Manipur are yet to recognize the achievements of Manipuri women who have excelled in different fields.
It was Hijam Irabot who had voiced for women's empowerment and had worked relentlessly for the emancipation of Manipuri women.
The people of Manipur should carry forward the ideals of Hijam Irabot and uplift the condition of women in the State, the statement said.
MCP Manipur also pledged to fight rising crime and violence against women in the State.
