CCpur, August 24 2018:
The scheduled election for ADC Chairman which was fixed on August 23 at 11 am have been deferred to September4, at the eleventh hour, by the State Cabinet with an excuse that it has been postponed due to prevailing law and order situation in the State which is non-conducive since the ground situation is effectively normal, reported our correspondent.
It also added that the State Cabinet has met on August 22 to discuss the ADC election in Churachandpur and constituted a Cabinet subcommittee and conducted a meeting in the evening.
Though it is not known what exactly transpired at the two urgently summoned meetings, an order issued late in the night by the Secretary TA & Hills, in pursuance of a Cabinet decision, has postponed the election of Chairman ADC Churachandpur to September 4.The election for the Chairman became a major political bone of contention for the BJP Government as the issue of ADC Chairman has been lingering on for the past several months.
An outright election could have solved the issue but political manipulation was starkly at display as it kept on gnawing.
From amending the ADC Act to secure a minimum tenure for a Chairman, it moved on to withholding the no confidence moved by disgruntled members for months and dragging the case to courts.
When finally rallies were held against the DC for his refusal to convene a meeting to table the motion, a meeting date was fixed but only to be postponed the same day, allegedly due to a law and order situation arising out of an unrelated bandh call by a student body.
A day before the postponed meeting was held, the incumbent Chairman relinquished his seat which has effectively quashed the meeting, added our correspondent.
As no notice for election of new Chairman has come forth, several lobbying and behind the scene political maneuver involving the Governor was at stark display again.
The CEO ADC Churachandpur has fanned off a questionnaire to every ADC members asking if he/she has intended to contest for the Chairman in a moved to acquire information on who among the members could preside over the election when the election is held, reported our correspondent.
It has been reported that the Secretary TA & Hills has finally issued an order appointing the member to preside over the election and fixed 11 am on August 23 for the election however that too was again quashed by the State Cabinet under the excuse of law and order situation.
