Attack bid on murder accused

Angry locals and family members attempted to attack murder accused Khullem Jiten when he was produced before the Session Court Imphal West for the final hearing of the ongoing case against him for killing his own uncle and injuring another on June 30, 2015 .
From early morning, a large number of angry locals comprising mostly of womenfolk and family members of the deceased victim gathered at Cheirap Court complex after getting information that the murder accused will be produced before the Court for the final hearing of the ongoing trial.
Khullem Jiten was brought under heavy security inside a prisoner van to the Court complex and when he was being taken into the Court room, the angry mob tried to attack him but the security personnel prevented the situation, from escalating further.
During the hearing, the Session Judge heard the submission of the APP of the State and the defense counsel of the accused at length.
The submission of the defense counsel was not completed during today's hearing and as such the Court fixed August 27 for continuation of the final hearing.
While the accused was brought out from the Court complex and taken towards the prisoner van, angry womenfolk threw bottles and other objects towards the accused and also attacked the prisoner van on which the accused was taken away from the Court room.
It may be mentioned that the trial is on against the accused Khulem Jiten (41) s/o Khulem Kendrajit of Naoremthong Khulem Leikai in connection with the murder of his uncle Khulem Krishnamohan (51) and injuring another uncle Khulem Priyobarta (56) on 30 June 2015 .
Recently Jiten also killed another one of his uncles Khulem Tomba on July 27 at Meitei Langol Punsi Leikai, while the trial against him for his previous crime was in the final stage.
During police interrogation, it was revealed that the accused had planned to take revenge on (L) Kh Tomba for not allowing him (Jiten) to enter and live at his residence at Naoremthong Khulem Leikai after the 2015 incident.
