People's Convention on 'Question on Future of Manipur' held

Imphal, August 21 2015 :
Keeping an eye on various issues including the ongoing public demand of ILPS in Manipur, AFSPA and the question on the territorial boundary of the state, the Committee on Reconsolidation Campaign on Friday held a People's Convention on the theme "Question on the Future of Manipur" at GM Hall, Imphal.
Titular king of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba attended the convention as president while Ningthoujam Lancha was the moderator.
Manipur University Prof W Nabakumar, Naoroibam Indramani, Head of Department of Political Science, Modern College, Imphal, Haobam Indrakumar, advocate Puyam Tomcha, advocate Paosing Golmei, social activist Moirangthem Manimohon, Research Associate at Centre for South East Asia Study Manipur University, Kangujam Sanatomba, convener of Athouba Ningsing Thousillup Sana Konung, Somendro Thokchom and various representatives of different ethnic groups spoke at the convention.

The convention discussed the affairs of Manipur from the time when the State was an independent kingdom to the present situation.
It declared the 1949 merger agreement between Govt of India and Manipuri King Budhachandra as null and void.
The convention also recommended some points to be decided with the public.
