Old Ukhrul road restored, opened

The old Kamjong-Chassad PWD road, which bypasses a massive landslide, has been made operational and inaugurated in a grand ceremony by Col BN Nayak, SM, Commandant, 44 Assam Rifles.
During the heavy rainfall in the first week of July, a portion of the mountain joining Kamjong subdivision with the rest of Manipur was washed away which resulted in complete disappearance of over 500 meters of the main road.
The landslide completely cut of the subdivision and disrupted essential services.
According to a statement issued by the PRO of IGAR (S), 44 Assam Rifles along with the locals of Kamjong subdivision undertaken a project for restoration of 7 kms stretch of the old PWD road which remained idle since the 80s.For over 10 days, 44 Assam Rifles and the villagers worked day and night to finally open the road on Aug 20, thus restoring road connectivity to Kamjong subdivision.
The opening ceremony was attended by prominent personalities, community leaders and people of Kamjong subdivision who extended a helping hand to the project.
The villagers thanked 44 Assam Rifles for providing JCB, earth moving equipment and other sustenance items during the crisis period.
An interaction programme between the AR and the locals marked the opening ceremony, the PRO statement added.
