Village Level Water and Sanitation Committee (VLWSC), Chandel headquarters has rubbished the clarifications made by Jameson Bungdon, District Co-ordinator, Chandel PHE Division stating that the Water Supply Scheme for Chandel district Hqs was handed over to VLWS Committee on July 2014 with zero balance from the PHE Department, Chandel, our correspondent reports.
The said scheme was almost defunct due to lack of proper maintenance and lack of staff in the District headquarters.
As such, the committee had put in great amount of efforts to repair old pipes, lay new ones after which the people started enjoying potable drinking water.
Dismissing the claim of PHE, Chandel division, VLWS Committee said till date no fund for maintenance has reached the Committee neither from the Centre nor the State.
The recent landslide in the area had severely damaged the intake dam, collection chamber, raw pipe line and angle iron pipe crossing ( 250 mm in diameter, D.I pipe).
VLWS Committee after an inspection of the site, had submitted a written report along with photographs to authenticate the magnitude of the damage to the Deputy Commissioner of Chandel.
The report was also submitted to the Executive Engineer, PHE Division, Chandel personally by the committee requesting higher authorities of the PHE Department to personally visit the damaged sites to which the department turned a deaf ear.
