Three school girls, all below 12 years, yesterday underwent a harrowing experience when an unknown diesel auto driver who offered to drop them till their locality and tried to kidnap them.
All the three girls managed to escape by jumping down from the speeding auto and suffered injuries.
The girls who are all students of EL SCISM High School studying in classes III, IV and V and aged 10 to 11 were reportedly returning home from school after their annual sports event when an auto driver offered them to drop them at their locality.
The girls who are all from New Mission Veng took the ride around 4 pm from Red Cross Road, according to sources but the their expected home ride turned out to be a nightmare as the driver reportedly sped beyond the town with the real motive still unknown.
Multiple sources said the girls on reaching the Centenary gate near Peace ground, around 2 kms from where they boarded the diesel auto jumped down from the moving vehicle and sustained several degrees of injuries.
It is said that another auto driver who was heading towards the town met them on the road and brought them to the hospital where one of them was admitted for further treatment.
The local police is understood to have taken up a case and are looking for the suspect.
An independent source that was among the group of people who visited the girls last night said one of the girls was confident she could identify the auto-driver who is believed to be a local man, if she saw him again.
A statement issued by EL SCISM school today said it condemns in the strongest term the heinous attempt to kidnap three of their students and sought to know the motive and justification behind such dastardly act which it said is a direct assault to the assets of society.
The school urged all right thinking citizens and social organisations to join them in condemning the despicable act and take all-out efforts to prevent such acts of crime against the society at large and the students’ community in the future.
They also called on the authority concerned and the district administration to take necessary steps immediately to book the culprit and deliver justice.
