Imphal, October 14 2014:
In what has been seen as a fresh attempt to strengthen their public support base in the State, NSCN(IM) chairman Issak Chisi Swu has written to all the Churches in Nagaland to organise a special prayer programme on October 19 to pray for the success of the peace talks, The Asian Age reports.
Clarifying that there was no meeting either slated or even proposed between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leaders of the NSCN(I-M), security sources in the Ministry of Home Affairs told this newspaper that the NSCN (I-M) was yet to resume talks with the new Government in New Delhi.
Informing that the first round of meeting of the NSCN(I-M) leadership with RN Ravi, the chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee, who has also been appointed the Centre's new interlocutor for the Naga peace talks, held on September 30, security sources said that it was aimed to familiarise the Naga leadership with the new Government in New Delhi and its interlocutor.
Meanwhile, the NSCN(I-M) is also believed to have completed its consultations on their charter of demand that they had submitted to the previous Government about a year back.
Though, the NSCN (I-M) has given up their demand for a sovereign Nagaland, security sources said that the NSCN(I-M) may press for an independent Naga State having its allegiance with India.
