Imphal, October 14 2014:
Even though maximum posts of medical officers were recruited by the government, PHSCs or PHCs of Tousem and Tamei Sub-Divisions are not having minimum number of doctors to cater to the health needs of people residing at these places, a release of David Kamei, General Secretary, Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland) said today.
Saying that health care is needed most in these areas as these sub-divisions are located in the interior part of the State, the statement of David Kamei alleged that the State govt.has failed to devise a mechanism to deal with the problem, thereby rendering the common people to suffer like a wounded animal in the jungle.
The plight of the people of Tamenglong district particularly Tousem and Tamei sub-divisions and also other interior parts in different sub-divisions of the entire district has been completely neglected intentionally and deliberately in several spheres by the State government, according to the ZYF statement.
It asserted that doctors avoiding their responsibility to serve the human beings are violating their professional ethics, and this happens due to weakness of the government.
Doctors' dereliction of duty is due to politics of favoritism, it charged.
Doctors are reluctant to stay at their respective posting places due to absence of vehicles or ambulance, suitable official quarters which are basic requirements.
The ZYF demanded the government to formulate a policy to provide incentives to doctors who are deputed to hills and far flung remote areas considering the hardships they are going to encounter.
The root cause of backwardness and underdevelopment of all the sub-divisions in Tamenglong district is due to complete failure in road connectivity which is vital for transportation and communication in the absence of railways, airways or water ways etc.
it added.
Meanwhile, the Zeliangrong Students Union Manipur has submitted a memorandum the Chief Minister of Manipur highlighting the grievances of the health centres at Tamei and Tousem.
The memorandum warned the government of democratic agitations on Zeliangrong inhabitated areas, if it fails to address the issues of the health centres.
The Naga Peoples' front, Manipur states unit had also submitted a memorandum to the chief minister of Manipur on the issue of absence of Doctors at Tamei and Tousem Primary Health Centres.
The NPF also demanded the state government to depute sufficient number of medical professionals at these centres, failing which the matter would be brought to the notice of higher level authorities.
