Imphal, October 14 2014:
CAF & PD Labourers' Association has imposed a 24 hour bandh along NH-150 (Tiddim road) and NH-39 (New Cachar road) from the midnight of October 16 to the midnight of October 17 .
In a press meet held at Manipur Press Club today wives of the labourer bemoaned their pathetic conditions which have compelled the CAF & PD labourers to demand that they be allotted work.
Representing the affected family, Hemabati Laishram conveyed the wretched conditions faced by the families of these labourers.
The labourers, since they have not been hired for any work, are unable to provide two square meals a day to their respective family, Hemabati added.
At such, they would not be able to celebrate this year's Ningol Chakkouba.
Speaking on the occasion, CAF & PD Labourers' Association secretary Romendrajit Moirangcha said the association has been demanding work allocation for CAF & PD godown labourers to authorities concerned for quite some time.
He further expressed disappointment over the indifference of the State Government towards their state.
The association would therefore impose a 24 hour bandh along NH-150 and NH-39 from the midnight of October 16 to 17, Romendrajit added.
The bandh would be relaxed for schools, fire service and other heath related emergency services.
The association will also shut down FCI and CAF & PD related godowns and the import of goods into the State from October 18 onward.
The association has further appealed to labourers and truck drivers of these godowns to cooperate with the association.
