Charge framed against rape accused

Special Judge, POCSO Court, Manipur East today framed charges under section 6 of POCSO Act 2012 against a Government driver for allegedly raping a minor girl.
The accused has been identified as Laishram Bijoy (53) s/o (L) Gambhir of Pangei Yangdong bazar.
He works as a driver in the Economics and Statistics Department, Lamphelpat.
The accused is currently lodged at Sajiwa Central jail as an under trial prisoner and he appeared before the Court under special trial case number 9 POCSO with FIR reference number 34 (4) 2014 of Heingang police station under Section 376 IPC and POCSO Act 2012 .
During today's charge hearing, charges under Section 6 of POCSO Act were framed against him.
The charge sheet of the case was submitted by Heingang police station on July 30 last year.
The incident of rape allegedly happened on March 26 last year.
After the victim's family lodged a complaint at Heingang police station, the accused was arrested from his house on April 22 last year.
Medical examinations of the accused and victim were conducted at RIMS Forensic Medicine Department on April 24 and 25 respectively.
According to the victim's mother, her daughter was allegedly raped by the accused in a rented room at Pangei bazar where their family is staying.
On March 26 night, the girl was profusely crying, the mother said and added that when she checked her private part, it was found bleeding.
They then took the girl to the house of the accused and showed the condition of the girl to his wife and daughter-in-law.
However, they told the girl's family that the injury might have been caused due to stumbling, the girl's mother said.
The next day, when they went to RIMS hospital for the girl's treatment, doctors asked the family to examine the girl at the Forensic Department expressing suspicion of rape.
However, instead of taking the girl to the Forensic Department, they brought her home, she said.
Later, wife of the accused came to their house and requested them to hush up the matter saying that they were ready to bear all the medical expenses for the treatment of the girl.
However, the family turned down the offer and informed the matter to Heingang police station and local club.
