Imphal, June 12 2015 :
In spite of some violent and disruptive activities, the last ADC election was a remarkable success for the State Government and the Congress party, claimed Chief Minister O Ibobi.
Ibobi was speaking at the reception function of 46 Congress ADC Members elected from the six ADCs and Independent Member Pumtulthang Lienzo, elected from 21-Sangaikot DCC of Churachandpur ADC who has now joined Congress party.
Holding the ADC election successfully in time in compliance with democratic process inspite of some untoward incidents was a landmark achievement of the Government and the Congress party, said Ibobi.
It was in 2010 that election at grassroots level was held in the hill areas of Manipur after a prolonged gap, Ibobi reminded at the reception function held at Congress Bhavan here today.

Though the ADC election of 2010 was deterred by rampant violence and threats, it was held successfully.
Those elements who boycotted the election and steadfastly declared the election as null and void have joined the election process this time.
This is a sign of coming to senses and realization of the importance of ADC election, Ibobi remarked.
They would surely understand the difficulties generally associated with positions of power as and whey they assume offices of high responsibility.
Even though a different party is in power at the Centre, they have no authority to deny or curtail the share of funds due to the State, Ibobi asserted while promising that there would be no shortage of funds for development programmes.
MPCC president and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam recalled that the ADC election of 2010 was held against a formidable challenge.
Even after the election was over, some elements maintained that the election was null and void.
For many years, the duly elected ADCs could not function from their respective headquarters.
Those elements who were shouting at the top of their vocal cords that the ADC elections were not in the interest of hill people joined the election process this time.
This is a sign of self-realization.
On account of persistent threats against Congress candidates and their supporters, many are still unable to return to their native villages.
It is highly commendable that many people stood up to these challenges and fought the ADC election, Gaikhangam remarked.
Despite the challenges to the territorial integrity of Manipur, Congress candidates fought the ADC election in Senapati and Ukhrul districts, and their sense of judgement and valour has been appreciated far and wide, Gaikhangam asserted.
As the party has won the maximum number of seats, it's time to focus on speedy development in accordance with the collective aspirations of the masses, added the Deputy Chief Minister.
Cabinet Ministers, Congress MLAs, MPCC officer bearers and many party workers were also present at the felicitation function.
