Imphal, June 07 2020:
With the number of COVID-19 positive cases rising rapidly and incessantly, both RIMS and JNIMS are now facing shortage of beds set aside for COVID-19 patients.
Talking to The Sangai Express, Chief Minister N Biren said that due process has been initiated to increase the number of beds at both JNIMS and RIMS in view of the rapidly rising COVID-19 positive cases.
A few beds are still vacant at JNIMS but more beds would be laid for COVID-19 in some wards.
Shifting of COVID-19 patients who are currently undergoing treatment at RIMS and JNIMS to the UNACCO School COVID Care Centre, Meitram would begin in the next 4/5 days, said the Chief Minister.
Notably, the State Cabinet has already given its consent for purchasing necessary medical equipment and other materials for the COVID Care Centre to be opened at UNACCO School.
Presently, 83 people are undergoing COVID-19 treatment at JNIMS and 36 others at RIMS.
Authorities have been working to add 56 beds to the existing 40 beds reserved for COVID-19 patients in RIMS.
