Imphal, June 07 2020:
Leihou Khunai Kanba Luptin (LKKL) has appealed to the Government to stop the delimitation process based on the census report of 2001 claiming that the report does not reflect the true figure.
"It is not possible that Imphal East and Imphal West which are highly populated districts have a population growth rate of only 15 to 19 percent whereas hill districts of the State which are comparatively much lower in population have a growth rate of 41 to 169 percent according to 1991 and 2001 census report.
A Cabinet decision on July 4, 2003 decided to do a reverification of the 2001 census report in some hill sub-divisions following which the then Chairman of the committee formed for the reverification, Principal Secretary RC Mishra dubbed the population growth rate as 'abnormal'.
"If the Government is adamant on going ahead with the delimitation then it should be based on the people registered on Aadhaar data," it added.
The Kangleipak Women's Welfare Association has also objected to the delimitation process claiming that it is based on a faulty population data.
