CM leads in paying condolence to Dr Ahmed

A condolence service chaired by CM O Ibobi Singh was held at the conference hall of Manipur Secretariat South Block on the demise of State Governor, Dr Syed Ahmed, who passed away yesterday at a private hospital in Mumbai after a brief illness.
At the same time, a condolence meeting was also organised by Governor's Secretariat in the Darbar Hall, Raj Bhavan with the Secretary to the Governor in the chair on the demise of the Governor.
Attending the condolence programme at the Secretariat, Chief Minister O Ibobi said Dr Syed Ahmed was an eminent leader having a great personality and held many positions right from his election as an MLA to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.
Dr Ahmed also served as a Minister in Maharashtra and was the Governor of Jharkhand prior to his gubernatorial assignment in Manipur.
He took charge as the Governor of Manipur on May 16 this year.

The CM also mentioned that PHED Minister I Hemochandra Singh, who is in Delhi will be attending the last rites of late Dr Syed Ahmed, held today in Mumbai as a representative of the Manipur Government.
O Ibobi said he along with Dy CM wanted to join the funeral but could not do so due to unavailability of any flight service from Imphal to Mumbai in time for attending the last rites.
The CM advised I Hemochandra and some officials of Manipur Bhavan, New Delhi to attend the rites.
The CM, on behalf of the State, extended heartfelt condolence to the family members of Dr Syed Ahmed.
Prior to this, the CM led the dignitaries present in offering rich floral tributes to the photograph of the late Dr Syed Ahmed.
A two-minute silence was also observed in honour of the departed leader.
The condolence meeting was attended amongst others by Dy CM Gaikhangam, Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries, MLAs, Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga, DGP Shahid Ahmad and other high ranking civil and police officers.
Maj General P Nagesh Rao, GOC, 57 Mountain Division also attended the condolence meeting organised in honour of late Governor of Manipur today.
The GOC laid wreaths on behalf of Lt Gen Bipin Rawat, Corps Commander, 3 Corps and Lt Gen Praveen Bakshi, Army Commander, Eastern Command.
Meanwhile, officers and staff of Raj Bhavan, Manipur including those of attached departments and the CRPF personnel gathered at 1 pm in the Darbar Hall for a condolence service.
Rich tributes were paid to the late Governor and he was remembered for his humility and straight forwardness amongst other qualities, a statement issued by Secretary to the Governor said.
A two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed soul and the Secretary to Governor, Th Chittaranjan Singh led the gatherings in offering floral tributes to the photograph of the Governor.The officers and staff of Raj Bhavan, Manipur shared the sorrow of the family of the bereaved family.
Dr Syed Ahmed was sworn in as the 16th Governor of Manipur on May 16, 2015.Though his association with the State was very brief, his charm and affable nature touched all those who came close to him.
At the same time, Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union have condoled the sudden demise of Governor Dr Syed Ahmed.
