Manipur Governor Syed Ahmed laid to rest; State Govt pays last respect

Imphal, September 28 2015:
Governor of Manipur Dr Syed Ahmed who passed away on Sunday was laid to rest with full State honours at Rehmatabad cemetery in Byculla in South Mumbai on Monday.
Reports reaching Imphal from Mumbai said that a host of senior political leaders from different parties, family members and a large number of admirers from different walks of life visited and paid last respect to Dr Syed Ahmed.
Maharashtra Governor CV Rao also visited Nagpada, where the Late Governor's body was kept and paid homage to the departed leader.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, former union minister and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and several State and Central leaders and other prominent personalities attended the funeral.

Condolence meeting held .
A condolence meeting chaired by the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh was held on Monday at the Conference Hall of the Manipur Secretariat South Block on the demise of the Governor of Manipur Dr Syed Ahmed, who passed away on September 27 .
The Chief Minister while conveying his condolences message on the sudden demise of the Manipur Governor, said Dr Ahmed was an eminent leader having great personality who held many positions right from his election as an MLA to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly for five times, according to a release from the Chief Minister's Secretariat.
He also served as a Minister in Maharashtra and was the Governor of Jharkhand prior to being appointed as the Governor of Manipur on May 16 this year.
He himself along with Deputy Chief Minister wanted to join the funeral, but because of the unavailability of any flight service from Imphal to reach Mumbai in time for attending the last rites he advised Minister I Hemochandra and some officials of the Manipur Bhavan, New Delhi to attend it, the CM added.
Prior to this, floral tributes were also paid to the photograph of late Dr Syed Ahmed by all the dignitaries present led by the Chief Minister.
A two-minute silence was also observed in honour of the departed leader.
Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries, MLAs, Chief Secretary, DGP, Army Officers and other civil and police officers attended the condolence meeting.
Manipur Raj Bhavan pays tribute .
Officers and staff of Raj Bhawan, Manipur including representative from attached departments and the Central Reserved Police Force (CRPF) personnel on Monday observed a condolence service to pay last respect to the late Governor of Manipur Dr Syed Ahmed.
In a statement, Secretary to the Governor of Manipur Th Chittaranjan said the condolence service was held at Darbar Hall.
The officers and staff paid rich tributes to the Governor and remembered him for his humility and straight forwardness amongst other qualities.
A two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed soul and those present in the meeting also offered floral tributes to the image of the Governor.
The officers and staff of Raj Bhawan, Manipur shared pain and sorrow of the bereaved family members and prayed that his soul rest in peace.
Meghalaya Governor gets addl charge of Manipur .
Consequent upon the demise of Dr Syed Ahmed, Governor of Manipur, the President of India has appointed V Shanmuganathan, Governor of Meghalaya, to discharge the functions of the Governor of Manipur, in addition to his own duties, until regular arrangements are made, said a Rashtrapati Bhavan communiqu�.
V Shanmuganathan will arrive Imphal on September 30 and the will be sworn in as the Governor of Manipur on October 1, informed a reliable source.
