State Govt decides to set up film city

Even as a film city inclusive of a film institute which was earlier planned to be set up in Manipur has been shifted to Arunachal Pradesh at the behest of the Government of India, the State Government has decided to set up a film city on its own.
A decision to this effect was adopted at a high level meeting presided by Chief Minister O Ibobi this morning.
Establishment of sports university, smart city and film city in Manipur were three projects included in the 100 days' programme announced by Narendra Modi soon after assuming the office of Prime Minister.
Although necessary steps have been initiated to take up all the three projects, the project of setting up a film industry was suddenly shifted to Arunachal Pradesh.
The estimated areas required for setting up film city and film institute are 200 acres and 50 acres respectively.
Out of the total area required for the film city, the Government has already reserved 24.44 acres at Khundrakpam.
Art and Culture Secretary K Radhakumar, Art and Culture Director Dr K Sushila, well known film personalities namely; Aribam Syam, Yengkhom Roma, Oken Amakcham, K Tomba, Haobam Pawankumar, representatives of Film Development Society, Film Forum, CATA and other relevant officials were also present at today's meeting.
For the establishment of a film city and a film institute, the meeting resolved to constitute a committee with the Art and Culture Secretary as chairman and the Art and Culture Director as convenor.
After a detailed study, the committee would submit a report to the Government within a month, informed an official source.
The committee has begun their work and they have already sent a written invitation to Satyajit Ray Film Institute Kolkata, Sound Division head Ghoshal to visit Manipur in connection with the proposed film city and film institute.
The committee would study whether the proposed film institute would be made autonomous or affiliated to the proposed culture university.
