Imphal, July 19 2015 :
The BJP National Secretary Sunil Deodar slammed the Manipur Government for its failure to allot land for the construction of the Sports University.
He further said that the State Government is fumbling on the issue despite the fact that the Union Government had already sanctioned Rs 100 crore for it.
He said that the state government is not taking a keen interest although Manipur is the power house of sports in the country.
He was speaking on Sunday at the BJP office on the occasion of the Maha Sampark Abhiyan.
The party has been implementing developmental projects in the NE region with special reference to the promotion of sports.
Since Manipur is in the forefront in sports the union government had approved the construction of the sports university.
It is deplorable that so far the construction works cannot be started.
The BJP ministers are taking special care for the development of the NE region.
Roads and bridges get priority.
Most of the ministers are going to the region frequently.
Jitendra Singh, the DONER minister had taken up various developmental plans.
Most of the developmental works were not taken up by the Congress government, he added.
BJP has emerged as one of the largest parties in the world.
There are 11 crore members of the party in the country and the figure is increasing.
Since more and more people believe in the balanced developmental works of the party the number of BJP members in Manipur is also high.
Speaking in the function Thounaojam Chaoba, the state party president said that the state government is seeking three months' time to introduce and pass the replacement ILP bill.
On the other hand, there is continuing agitation of the people.
He said that the government should not take such a long time.
It will be better if the government takes up timely actions keeping in view the seriousness of the issue.
A number of states including Himachal Pradesh have their own laws to protect the indigenous peoples.
Under the circumstances, there is no reason why such a law cannot be passed in Manipur.
In view of the seriousness of the issue and concern of the people BJP has constituted a drafting committee on the ILP.
The state government has committed a blunder by using the word, migrants, in the bill since it is in union list.
The bill to protect the indigenous peoples should be within the framework of the constitution.
It may be recalled that BJP is one of the parties which are boycotting the all political parties committee formed in connection with the ILP issue.
