Imphal, November 07 2021:
The Minor Irrigation Department of the State has been able to take various developmental projects for the farmers in the State including central schemes under the sponsorship of the Department of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Ministry, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and NEC.
The above statement was made by the Chief Engineer of the Minor Irrigation Department while briefing the media persons during a press meet held at the Department at Lamphelpat.
He further stated that such projects are being carried out successfully by the Department.
Speaking about the GroundWater Scheme of the Central Government, he said that plans are underway to construct 550 (five hundred and fifty) wells in the State.
The Department has been contributing majorly whenever the State faces drought or a similar situation.
He maintained that most of the projects taken up in the State are Central Government schemes only and due to lack of funds, the Department is unable to take up schemes under the State's Plan.
Reacting on the baseless claims made against the Minor Irrigation Department by some MLAs while speaking on election campaigns, he termed it as really unfortunate.
Further the Chief Engineer appealed to all to cooperate with any of the works or projects taken up by the Department.
