RS MP vows upgrade of MUC to central varsity

Titular king of Manipur and Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba has said that upgrading the Manipur University of Culture (MUC) to a central university will be beneficial for the state in many ways.
Attending the releasing ceremony of Luwang Film Production's 'Ima Machet Icha Tangkhai' held at Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) auditorium, Palace Gate, here on Sunday, Leishemba Sanajaoba said that MUC is playing an important role in promoting art and culture of the state.
The country has only three cultural universities and the other two are in Odisha and Assam.
He is putting his best efforts to upgrade MUC into a central university, he said.
Expressing concern over the degrading behaviour among the younger generation, the Rajya Sabha MP emphasised on the role and responsibilities of parents and guardians in shaping the future pillars of the society instead of just paying attention to their children's academic activities.
He also stressed the need for making moral education an integral part of everyday life.
'Ima Machet Icha Tangkhai' which is the first film produced under the banner of Luwang Films Production shows the effect of modern parents and their parenting style on their children when there are certain loopholes.
Hailing the debutant child artists Luwangthoibi and others, the titular king expressed hope that the production house would come up with more films that give important message to the society.
Art and culture director Ng Uttam, who presided over the function, spoke on the relationship between culture with development, territorial and emotional integrity.
He also stressed on the role of films, drama, Shumang Leela and other art forms in bringing emotional integrity among the indigenous people.
Luwang Film Production's production controller Namoijam Tomba, MUC vice-chancellor professor Paona Gunindro, Padmashri Naba Wareppa, and Sangeet Natak Akademi award winning Shumang Leela artiste Sougrakpam Hemanta were also present at the function.
Director, artistes and crew members of the film were honoured by the production house on the occasion.
