Imphal, October 03 2009:
With the sole common interest of defeating the Congress party in the upcoming by-election to the Yaiskul Assembly Constituency, MPP and BJP leaders have started holding discussion.
According to information received by the press, BJP State unit president Dr Haobam Borbabu went to the office of MPP at around 11 am today and met its president Dr Nimaichand Luwang to discuss the upcoming byelection.
The discussion of the two leaders mainly centered around fielding a common candidate of non-Congress political parties under the objective of ensuring defeat of Congress nominee in the by-election.
During the meeting, Dr Borbabu made it clear that BJP would extend its support to MPP candidate as common candidate if the latter has any plan of contesting in the by-election.
Dr Borbabu also suggested coming together of all the Opposition parties against the Congress party in the upcoming byelection.
From the side of MPP, Dr Nimaichand revealed the plan of the party to contest in the by-election and exuded confidence that the support of the BJP would be helpful.
On the other hand, a meeting of the office bearers of MPP held today has decided to field a candidate of the party to contest in the by-election.
As of the Govt partners Congress and CPI, so far there is no official meeting to discuss fielding of their respective candidates in the by-election to the Yaiskul Assembly Constituency which has been necessitated following the demise of its sitting Congress MLA E Kunjeshore.
