Members of All Manipur Hill District Contract Basis Teachers' Association staged a protest demonstration at Chingmeirong Khongnang Ani Karak today demanding extension of services of 1186 contract teachers under the Director of Education (S) Hills, Government of Manipur.
In a statement issued in this connection, information and publicity secretary of the Association Ziaul Haque pointed out that the said contract teachers were engaged and their service extended from time to time since May 16, 2006 under the principle of the MoU signed between the Government of Manipur and ATSUM on March 31, 2006 .
The Association as well as ATSUM have been approaching Government to extend service of the contract teachers for full academic year in the interest of ensuring an academic atmosphere in the hill districts.
However, the Government has not given any positive response to this, Ziaul Haque lamented.
He also demanded rectification of the existing pay and remuneration of the contract teachers as per the existing PIC rules and a clear put policy on the regularisation of the contract teachers.
If the Government fails to give a positive response within 15 days, the Association would take the help of various student organisations and NGOs based in the hills to launch various democratic agitation, the Association warned.
