Lamka, October 03 2009:
The Manipur Tribal Council today reiterates its demand for an immediate Autonomous District Council Election in the hill districts to central leaders including UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and the Home Minister P Chidambaram.
MTC's renewed demand today, according to the memo dispatch to the central leaders transpire as there were apparent signs of delaying the proposed election.
Besides, the memo alleged that tribals in the hills were not given enough attention as has been given to the people in the plain as the government could manage to done the same within a fortnight in the case of Panchayati election in the valley.
The council also express reservation on the state government's attempt to recruit 3453 primary teachers under the district council at a time when the proposed MDC election is under process.
This, according to the memo is done despite the fact that 3888 existing employees under ADC have been devoid of any pays for the past seven months.
As such, the present exercise was meant only to earn big bugs, making the distinction between the tribals and nontribals all the more and the district councils in particular simply a lame duck without power, added
the council.
