Imphal, October 03 2009:
Singing praises of Mahatma Gandhi while remaining a mute spectator to the continuous cycle of violence and human rights violation sounds absurd, remarked the Working Committee of the Apunba Lup apparently referring to Governor Gurbachan Jagat's address given on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti yesterday.
Being the head of the state, the Governor has constitutional authority to play some significant and decisive roles, particularly when the situation in a state becomes anarchic and the people rise up against the elected Government, the Apunba Lup reminded in a press release.
The Governor of Manipur ought to present a detail report to New Delhi on the continuing mass movement and help in bringing a viable solution.
However, the stoic silence maintained by the Governor over the last two months only indicated that Governor Gurbachan Jagat is also a party to the larger conspiracy plotted by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, it alleged.
Under such circumstances, efforts to ingrain Gandhian thoughts to the people of Manipur would be futile.
The Apunba Lup asked the Governor whether Gandhi's principles who fought against British colonialism and is venerated as the father of the nation permit the killing spree unleashed in Manipur which is also a part of the Indian Union.
The Apunba Lup asserted that it's time for the legislators of the state to give up practice of 'donkey barking in place of dog' or 'thieves acting as owners'.
Before blaming people for speaking 'irrelevant words', the legislators need to work in such a manner so that people could not criticise their activities and conduct.
But if the legislators are indulging in fraudulence and wrongful activities, it is only natural for the people to censure their activities and stand up against them.
Continuous misuse of political power and looting public money would result in a blood-bath in the end, the Apunba Lup cautioned.
Together with the people, the Apunba Lup would carry on with the ongoing movement for initiation of criminal proceedings against the guilty commandos and resignation of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi.
Saying that the people of Manipur are well aware of the agenda being pursued by the Government, the Apunba Lup called upon the people to fight collectively in order to defeat the sinister agenda of the Government before each and every family of Manipur becomes victims of fake encounters.
