More than 40 vehicles including two inter-state buses were reported to have been damaged by bandh supporters at Senapati district and one truck and three bikes were seized at Finch Corner, Ukhrul district by various student bodies and civil society organizations of the district.
The 48-hour state-wide bandh which began on October 1 called by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) for 2006 Autonomous District Council Teachers Appointed Parents and Guardians, Manipur paralyzed normal life totally in Senapati, Ukhrul and Chandel districts headquarters, though it did not have much effect in the other hill districts of the state.
Volunteers of various civil bodies of Ukhrul district namely Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), Tangkhul Ungnao Long (TUL), Tangkhul Sinao Long (TSL), Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) and Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL) blocked the Imphal-Ukhrul road at Finch Corner in the district.

The bandh supporters blocked the highway 53 at Kangpokpi and did not allow any vehicle to pass through.
The supporters broke glasses of vehicles which refused to stop or return.
The bandh was called by the JAC against the state government's directive for holding DPC for fresh recruitment of primary teachers for the five hill districts of Manipur without first settling the cases of the 835 teachers appointed on regular basis by government constituted DPC in 2006 .
The JAC has been demanding that the government should maintain the status quo of the appointed teachers as per the offer forms, service books and service identity cards (valid up to March 2012) which were issued by the authority concerned, and to retain their status as employees as their services were detailed in the recently held 15th Lok Sabha election, besides the Assembly election.
Executive members of the JAC told different teams of media persons in Ukhrul, Senapati and Chandel districts that if the government does not respond favorably to the demands of the JAC, the JAC will intensify the agitation against the government by burning down government schools, offices and other government buildings.
They said that the JAC is not against the DPC for fresh appointment of teachers, but they only want their services to be regularised.
Indefinite economic blockade is also being imposed by the JAC along National Highways 39 and 53 from midnight of September 29 .
