Imphal, October 03 2009:
Carrying the message of popularising indigenous handloom products of the State and encourage the people to present such products as gifts during the ensuing Ningol Chakkouba festival, the 4th Kanglei Ningol Khudol Handloom Exhibition cum Sale would be organised under the aegis of Apunba Kanglei Shinaibi Lup (AKSIL) at the complex of Gandhi Memorial hall from October 11 to 19 .
Addressing a press conference in this connection at the AKSIL office here today, its president Gomti Leima explained that presentation of indigenous handloom products as gifts during the traditional Ningol Chakkouba which is celebrated with great fanfare once every year on the second day of Hiyangei would not only help in promotion of handloom industries but also in preserving the true character of the festival.
Expressing concern over the recent trends of adopting foreign products as gifts for Ningol Chakkouba, Gomti Leima said that this would denigrate the essence of celebrating Ningol Chakkouba as the reaffirmation of the inalienable bond between brothers and sisters apart from pauperising the economy of the State.
"So it should be the responsibility of all of us to preserve the real characteristics of Ningol Chakkouba through promotion of indigenous handloom products," she said.
It is said that in all 65 stalls would be participating in the exhibition cum sale displaying various handloom products of the State.
