'Call off blockade'

Civil society organisations and Lups based at Imphal have appealed KPLF/KPLA to call off its proposed ten day economic blockade in view of the ensuing festivals today.
Protection and Preservation Committee, Manipur (PPCM) convenor Dr Y Mani, during a press meet held at the committee's office today appealed the KPLF/KPLA to call off its proposed economic blockade on the National Higways in view of the ensuing major festivals of the State.
Consumers' Affairs Committee and Manipur Ethnic Economic Development Committee under PPCM, an apex body of 34 different civil society organisations based at Imphal, would start monitoring prices of commodities at shops and markets to ensure no unnecessary price hike occurs during the proposed blockade, the convenor said.
The committee convenor further urged the State Government to fix prices of essential commodities including fuel to lessen the strain of the blockade on the people.
ACOAM Lup president Ksh Somendra, in a seperate meet held at the Lup's office today, has also appealed KPLF/KPLA to call off the proposed blockade in view of the ensuing major festivals like Mera Houchongba, Kut and Ningol Chakkouba.
ACOAM Lup would be holding a grand celebration of Mera Houchongba at Khangabok MMRC to reinstate the bond of brotherhood between the hill and valley people, Somendra stated.
He has further appealed all the hill and valley people to participate in the celebration rooted in strengthening the bond of brotherhood.
