Electoral roll revision campaign held

With the objective to educate citizens about the electoral process to increase participation, the District Election Office, Chandel, organized an electoral roll revision campaign under the Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Programme at Japhou Bazar in Chandel District Headquarters today, our correspondent reports.
An awareness programme was also held as part of the campaign wherein exhibition of posters related to the electoral process, disseminating of information using public address system and distribution of electoral enrolment and correction forms were done.
W Iboyaima, SVEEP’s District Nodal Officer Chandel and S Deven Singh, District Information Officer also took part in the campaign.
Speaking to media persons, SVEEP’s District Nodal Officer and Assistant Project Officer of DRDA Chandel, W Iboyaima said the campaign was conducted as a part of Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) with an objective to encourage the citizens to participate in the electoral process by enrolling themselves in the electoral roll.
The District Nodal Officer further said that the campaign was organized all over the country as the percentage of voters who exercise their franchise in an election is quite low.
“At some places, only 60 percent of electorates exercise their franchise,” he added.
Similar campaign will be also conducted at other places of the district including Komlathabi and Moreh, he added.
