State readies Smart City proposal

The State has drafted a proposal for development of Imphal as a smart city and the same would be sent to the Government of India soon.
Speaking to media persons at the Old Secretariat conference hall today, Chief Secre- tary O Nabakishore said that 28,000 people came respon-ded to the State Government's invitation to give suggestions/opinions on development of Imphal as a smart city.
Notably, the total population of Imphal city is around 2.60 lakhs.
Majority of the people suggested development of Imphal as a smart city from the existing structure and layout.
Based on these suggestions, a high power committee has decided to draft a proposal for development of Imphal as a smart city by retaining the existing structure and layout, said the Chief Secretary who is also the chairman of the high power committee.

Chief Minister O Ibobi held a meeting with MLAs representing different Assembly segments located within Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) and IMC officials yesterday and the meeting discussed about different suggestions given by different sections of the society.
The meeting agreed to take up the mission of developing Imphal as a smart city based on the public suggestions.
MAHUD Secretary RK Dinesh would take the people's suggestions to Delhi and consult a consultant before submitting a project proposal to the concerned Ministry by December 15, said Naba-kishore.
Development of Imphal as a smart city would begin from Paona Keithel, Thangal Keithel, Nagamapal and Wahengbam Leikai and 'smart parking lots' would be incorporated within the plan.
MAHUD Director N Geetkumar said that Imphal would be developed as a smart city through retrofitting approach over an area of 541 acres in the first phase before the same project is expanded over a larger area.
Cycle tracks, smart parking lots, public transport systems and devices for tracking vehicles would be constructed/installed in the process of developing Imphal as a smart city.
MAHUD Secretary RK Dinesh declared results of different competitions held under the aegis of IMC in connection with the concept and model of the proposed smart city.
Jayarani Wahengbam won first position in the Smart City Vision competition while the second position was shared between Md Amjudin and Heigrujam Premkumar.
Takhellambam Velentina bagged the third position.
Chingshangnganba Leishangthem and Elina Chingshubam won the first and second positions respectively in the Smart City Essay competition.
The third position was shared between Anthony M Townsend and Yumkham Anupama.
RK Biondeep was adjudged the best in the Smart City Logo competition while Heigrujam Premkumar and Wahengbam Rocky were declared joint winners of the Slogan/Tag Line competition.
