Barak fest kick starts at Senapati

The second edition of Barak festival 2015 has kicked off at Senapati district Hqs yesterday.
Apart from mesmerizing songs and cultural items, the indigenous car rally drew a large crowd.
During the grand opening programme, Senapati ADC Chairman ML Markson and Vice-Chairman John Hingba called for collective effort to protect Barak river.
During the evening session, the crowd witnessed the four finalists of Barak voice hunt performing some enthralling songs.

Timikha Koza, president, Tenyimi People's Organization (TPO) who attended the inaugural programme as the chief guest urged the gathering to collectively protect Barak river and forests.
T Kamba Moses, president, Naga People's Organization said that the objective of organizing such event is to celebrate the blessings of the mother nature and to promote protection of Barak river and environment.
He added, "We hope that the festival will also help in rejuvenating, preserving and reviving the cultural heritage and values of the people" .
The melodious theme song 'The Barak journey' by singers belonging to five major tribes of Senapati district � Mao, Maram, Poumai, Thangal and Zeliangrong also enthralled the gathering during the inaugural function.
The second day of the festival was filled with cultural extravaganza and was graced by Jacintha Lazarus, Deputy Commissioner, Senapati and Brigadier Jeetendra Ohri, Commander, 59th Mtn Brig, Senapati, C Arthur W, Chairman, COHSEM, Director of Higher Education Manipur, Regina Hongray, Dy Secretary, Health and Relief, Ganguilu Gangmei, SDO, Tadubi, Adahrii Maheo, SDO, Songsong, Siddhartha, Assistant Commissioner and leaders of civil society organisations.
Brig Jeetendra Ohri stated that Barak is a unique gift of God and a source of blessings to the people of Senapati with beautiful nature.
The festival provides a platform to showcase the rich traditions and cultures of various tribes who have been nurtured by Barak.
DC Jacintha Lazarus appreciated NPO for initiating such event in order to showcase the ancestral practices to the younger generation.
