MNYO makes stand clear

Imphal, August 01 2026: The Manipur Naga Youth Organisation (MNYO) has called for the removal of Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen from the Council of Ministers, the withdrawal of CoBRA units from Bitiang and surrounding Naga areas, speedy prosecution of those responsible for the killings of six Naga civilians, and immediate clearance of the blockade along National Highway-202 .

MNYO, in a press release, questioned the moral authority and integrity of Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, 'married to Thangboi Kipgen, the chief of a Kuki militant outfit under Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement' .

Allowing the wife of a militant leader to occupy a high Constitutional post in the State Cabinet represents a blatant conflict of interest and direct political patronage for armed elements, it said.

Moreover, the MNYO alleged that security forces have granted complete impunity to Kuki militants, allowing them to operate freely and enforce blockades along NH-202 (Imphal-Ukhrul Highway) .

The Organisation also referred to the killing of six Naga men after they were abducted from Leilon Vaiphei on May 13, saying that justice has not been delivered despite the passage of more than two months.

Criticising the pace of the investigation, the MNYO urged the State Government to penalise all the residents of Leilon Vaiphei involved in the abduction of Naga residents on May 13 .

It further urged the Government to abrogate the SoO agreement with all Kuki militant signatories and immediately designate them as terrorist organisations.

Is there any reason why Kuki militant organisations such as KNF (P), KRA, KLA/UKLA, KRF and KNF (N) should not be designated as terrorist organisations?, it asked, alleging that these groups are "more brutal and inhuman" than many other organisations already designated as terrorist organisations by the Government of India.

The MNYO also condemned the operation carried out by the CRPF's CoBRA unit at Bitiang in Noney district, which resulted in the death of a member of the Naga Village Guard (NVG) and left several village volunteers injured.

"The details surrounding the recent assault on Bitiang village revealed a deliberate and sinister pattern of State aggression", it claimed.

The statement further alleged that CoBRA personnel encircled Bitiang a day prior to the assault.

The Organisation alleged that the complete absence of the local district administration and police personnel during the early morning combing operation constituted a violation of human rights and departed from the established norms governing military operations in a peaceful area such as Bitiang.

Meanwhile, MNYO condoled the demise of Naga Mothers' Association (NMA) president Vilanuo Angela Yhome on July 31 .

It said that the death of NMA president is a great loss for the whole Naga community and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
