Manipur State Commission (MSCW) for Women celebrated its 9th foundation day at DC office complex, Lamphelpat today.
PHE and Labour and Employment Minister I Hemochandra and MSCW Chairperson Dr L Ibetombi graced the function as chief guest and president respectively.
Social Welfare Department Deputy Director Surrender A Shishak and MSCW legal advisor S Meghachandra also attended the function as guests of honour.
Speaking at the occasion, I Hemochandra said that women's attires normally signify the culture of a community.
As such, women generally play important roles in upholding the culture and tradition of their respective communities, he said.
Although, the condition of women is somewhat better in the State when compared to other States, different forms of crime against women are still happening in the State, he said.
The Minister said that the law would help every woman if they do not get the entitled rights and privileges.
In his speech, S Meghachandra said that MSCW received 519 cases from 2007 till 2015.Of these 519 cases, 438 cases have been disposed, he said.
Surrender A Shishak said that although the literacy rate of women is increasing both in hill and valley districts, crime against women is also on the rise.
As such, there is a collective effort to check it, he said.
