Candidate cries foul

Laiphrakpam Gyaneshore, Msc 3rd semester, Department of Life Science, Manipur University, has begun an indefinite hunger strike today against the alleged denial of his right to contest MUSU election through intimidation and threats by one student body.
Gyaneshore served as a councillor of MUSU representing AMSU and Department of Life Science in the previous semester.
Speaking to media persons, Gyaneshore said he intended to contest the upcoming MUSU election scheduled to be held on December 4.He had even started out his election campaign when All Manipur Student's Union denied to support him in the election.
The student's body allegedly pressurised and threatened Gyaneshore from contesting the union election.
He was allegedly thrashed by AMSU volunteers yesterday while returning from MUSU office.
Gyaneshore who went to collect the nomination form from MUSU office was allegedly stopped by a group of AMSU volunteers demanding conversation on his candidature.
When Gyaneshore conveyed his decision to contest the union election without the support of AMSU, he was attacked and thrashed in front of MUSU office, he alleged.
Gyaneshore was allegedly forced to sign on a declaration drafted on the letter heads of AMSU and MUSU which says that, "I will not contest the MUSU election, 2015" .
Gyaneshore has also rubbished the allegations made by AMSU on removing him from the union.
He served as the general secretary of AMSU for the term 2015-17 till June this year.
As such, the union owes clarification and an apology for their mistreatment and threats, Gyaneshore said.
The hunger strike is a protest against all such mistreatment and threats meted out by AMSU, Gyaneshore said.
