As part of the ongoing Manipur Sangai Festival organisers' endeavour to draw visitors, an international level three-day X Games (speed climbing) competition would be held during the festival while troops of 9 Sector Assam Rifles today entertained the crowd.
Meanwhile, Commissioner (Tourism) KK Chhetry has appealed to all concerned not to call/enforce bandh/blockade which could deter presence of visitors at the Festival.
Conveying that the Festival is not only a platform to showcase the rich cultural heritage and promote tourism industry Chhetry said it is an opportunity for the State artisans to display their talents.
Exuding confidence that the festival will provide the much needed impetus to the economy, the Commissioner reiterated his appeal to abstain from all activities detrimental to smooth conduct of the important event.
According to a PRO IGAR (S) statement, the 9 Sector AR is planning various events at the Festival along with Manipur Tourism Department.
As a part of its endeavour, a mesmerising Pipe Display was put up by the troops in their colourful attire which left the crowd spellbound, the PRO release said adding that an Assam Rifles pavilion has also been established to showcase the history and contribution of Assam Rifles in Manipur.
The pavilion also gives guidance to volunteers towards joining Assam Rifles/Army for which pamphlets providing details on how to join the security forces are being distributed, the release informed.
In the coming days, band displays, Khukri dance and Bhangra dance will be some added attraction of the Festival from the side of the Assam Rifles, it added.
On the otherhand, interacting with newspersons today at the Hapta Kangjeibung complex of the festival, Indian Mountaineering Foundation chairman Keerthipais said Festival's partner-association Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association would conduct the speed climbing competition at the festival premises from November 26 till 28 under the aegis of the Foundation.
He informed that the event would be participated by sportspersons from Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Chinese Taipei, China, Kazakhstan and Indonesia besides India.
The eight-member Indian team will also have two from Manipur namely K Surjit and L Muhindro, according to the IMF chairman who added that the competition will start at 4.30 pm.
Commissioner (Tourism) KK Chhetry was also present at the media briefing.
