Myanmar assures sufficient fish export to State

Emphasising on improvement in the trade relationships between India and Myanmar, a top representative of the neighbouring country's fish export/import company asserted that fish product could be provided to Manipur in abundance.
Taking part at an interaction programme hosted by Indo-Myanmar Fraternal Alliance at the Kwakeithel Moirang Purel Leikai residence of Akoijam Tarakeshwor Singh today, Managing Director Win Myint of Myanmar-based Shwe Si Soe Company Limited, a fishery product export and import company said shortage of fish product in Manipur could be solved through import from Myanmar.
Informing that Myanmar has plenty of both fresh-water and sea fish varieties which could be consequently exported to Manipur, the General Manager reiterated that there is need for further streamlining of the indo-Myanmar trade relationships.
Managing Director U Thun Shwe of Mangiri Industrial Company Ltd said Myanmar has substantial population of people who have roots in Manipur and expressed confidence that if there is political stability in the neighbouring country then condition of the Manipuris will certainly improve.
Further conveying that many of the Manipuri natives continue to communicate in fluent Manipuri dialect, he suggested that upgrading radio network broadcast from Manipur would be helpful in not only improving the vocabulary but will also help the Manipuris preserve their indigenous culture and traditional in Myanmar.
Stating he is also a Manipuri descendant, Thun Swe said there are many Manipuris in Myanmar who would like to visit the place of their parents' origin.
Asserting that he would extend all possible assistance to ensure people from Manipur feel at home in Myanmar, he desired that every section of the Manipuri society strive to preserve the historical relationship between Myanmar and Manipur.
Alliance president RK Shivchandra who also took part in the interaction programme said an 11-member Myanmar delegation is presently in the State to take part in the ongoing Manipur Sangai Festival.
While heartily welcoming the Myanmar team to Manipur, Shivchandra exhorted people of Manipur to contribute their mite for bringing Manipur-origin people in Myanmar closer to their native place.
He also strongly advocated securing the Imphal-Myanmar national highway stretch so as to overcome periodical problem of shortage of essential commodities triggered by bandh and blockades of the highways.
Apart from Manipur University Prof Elangbam Bijoykumar Singh, other members in the Myanmar team also took part at the event.
