Imphal, November 24 2011:
Maintaining that there are still many Zeliangrong villagers and organizations willing to participate in the public hearing being conducted by the Committee on Re-organisation of Administrative and Police District Boundary to express their views and opinions regarding the MoU signed on October 31 between the Sadar Hills District Demand Committee and the government of Manipur for creation of Sadar hills as a full-fledged district, the Committee Against the Creation of Sadar Hills District (CACSHD) has observed that the Committee conducting the public hearing should not ignore the sentiments of the Zeliangrong people and other affected people before submission of report to the government.
In a statement, Convenor of CACSHD Akhu Kamei asserted that so far maximum Kuki community based organizations and individuals have been given opportunity to participate in the public hearing, and therefore equal opportunity should be given to the Naga organizations as well.
The Convenor pointed out that CACSHD had staged a silent protest rally on November 17 to demonstrate Zeliangrong people's opposition to the MoU and also to seek appointment for participation in the public hearing.
But till date, no specific date has been given nor any intimation received from the side of the government.
CRA &PDB should not make a mockery of the ongoing public hearing by maintaining bias and one-sided dealing but the views and opinions of all the people who are strongly opposing the Sadar Hills issue should also be heard and recorded with total neutrality, Akhu Kamei further pointed out.
