Imphal, November 24 2011:
Claiming that the alien phrase "Supra-State Body" is found nowhere in the constitution of India, Manipur People's Party (MPP) on Thursday asserted that the party is committed to the protection and preservation of the territorial integrity and identity of the ethnic groups of Manipur, saying it would object tooth and nail to the formation of the proposed 'notorious" body and vehemently opposed any move to implement it.
MPP submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister on the issue of Supra-State Body yesterday, S.Umananda, president in-charge MPP told the media today.
Umananda regretted the silence maintained by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi who visited New Delhi recently to discuss the issue with the Prime Minister, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and the union Home Minister.
'MPP was set up with an aim to protect and safeguard the territorial integrity of the state", Umananda noted.
.MManitomba, MPP Youth Front President, talking to reporters said that in case the Prime Minister does not roll back the issue of Supra-State Body and takes necessary action to lift the ongoing economic blockade on national highways of the state ahead of his proposed visit to Manipur, he will be put to shame by the party's Youth Front.
For this, the front is all prepared to face any consequences, he added.
The objective of the memo submitted to the prime Minister on the issue of Supra-State Body was to communicate to him the intense feelings of the people here which is ridden anxiety and which may explode anytime with catastrophic results, the party said, adding that this relentless assault on the "public psyche" should be controlled in time otherwise unforeseen and unwanted incidents may flare up in the entire state of Manipur.
The Supra-State Body for the Nagas even though it guarantees the territorial boundary of Manipur, it makes no sense when the proposed Supra-State Body would be above or beyond the authority of the government of Manipur as the very meaning of supra suggests.
This "Almighty" body or council which is above everything else only means that virtually the so called Naga majority districts of Manipur will be sliced off from Manipur and this is clear crystal.
No veiled arrangement is needed to hoodwink the people of the state, MPP said.
"We may be forgiven to remind the Prime Minister of India that the fall-out of this new and equally notorious phrase " Supra-State Body" may be severer than that of June 18, 2001 incident and will be one of the most horrifying episodes of Manipur history", it further cautioned the Prime Minister.
Declaring that MPP will vehemently oppose the proposed Supra-State Body, it urged the Prime Minister to kindly give very serious attention to the memorandum submitted to him and "once for all dismiss the idea of forming a Supra-State Body for the Nagas of India" for it may trigger an unnecessary communal disharmony in Manipur.
