Imphal, February 05 2014:
Decrying alleged indifferent attitude of the Government and municipal council authorities, Joint Coordination Committee of All Manipur Municipality Employees and Workers' Union expressed strong resentment that inspite of the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh holding the MAHUD portfolio no positive measures were initiated for enhancing reputation of Imphal Municipal Council.
Speaking to newspersons at Manipur Press Club today, Committee general secretary Ph Chaoba Singh said IMC employees and workers have been on ceasework strike since December 17, 2013 to demand implementation of the 6th Pay Commission's recommendation.
With both the IMC Chairperson and the government of Manipur seemingly ignoring interest as well as despair of the municipal employees/workers the Committee is constrained to strengthen the resolve of sustaining the ongoing agitation, said the secretary strongly condemning inconsiderate attitude of IMC and State authorities.
Noting that some muster roll employees of the Council are being engaged by MAHUD officials in cleaning up the market places through daily wage payment basis, he wondered whether such decisive policy would bring lasting solution to the issue at hand.
Opining that the ploy of hiring muster roll workers seem to be asking the regular employees to tender enmasse resignation, Chaoba also blamed incompetency of IMC officials and councillors for the current mess.
Contending that IMC Executive Officer on deputation namely W Rajen does not deserve to remain in the post as the individual had allegedly no idea about official processes as a DDO which came to light when some of the employees sought information about their salary, he demanded that the post of Executive Officer be entrusted to someone from within the council.
Accusing elected Councillors of functioning whimsically, Chaoba observed that if the Councillors perform according to prescribed norms problems besetting the Council could have been averted.
Joining the media briefing Committee's publicity secretary Th Sobita alleged that the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has failed to justify his position as the MAHUD in-charge.
Contrary to the employees' expectation the CM has neither been able to redress grievances of the employees/workers nor initiating any development work.
Spurning repeated intimations for a meeting to discuss the current imbroglio suggest that the CM is not competent to handle such important assignment, she maintained.
